How to add an AI disclosure to Tidio

Article 50(1) of the EU AI Act, applicable since 2 August 2026, requires AI systems that interact with people to be designed so that those people know they are dealing with AI, unless this is obvious. If your website runs Tidio as a chatbot or AI agent, this page shows where to set its name, labels and first message so the notice appears at the start of every conversation.

AI product: Lyro AI Agent (Tidio) ·

What Tidio shows by default

Tidio's help centre does not describe an AI label for visitors. By default the agent is called Lyro and visitors see a "Lyro is typing" message, which does not by itself tell every visitor they are chatting with AI.

How to set up the AI notice

  1. Go to Settings > Live Chat > Appearance and, under Content > Home, write a Header and Message saying that an AI agent may answer first. Tidio also shows the header at the top of the chat screen while a visitor is talking to Lyro.
  2. Lyro only reacts to incoming messages, so add the notice as a flow that runs first: in Flows, create a flow with the "Visitor clicks on chat icon" trigger and a "Send a chat message" action announcing that an AI agent replies first.
  3. With the Lyro AI Agent package, rename Lyro under Lyro AI Agent > Configure > General to a name that signals AI, such as "Shop AI assistant". Tidio notes that the "Lyro is typing" text in Settings > Translations must still begin with "Lyro".
  4. If you use Proactive roles (Lyro AI Agent > Behavior > Proactive roles), write each proactive message so it mentions the AI agent, because that message is the first thing the visitor sees.
  5. Optionally add Guidance under Lyro AI Agent > Behavior > Guidance telling Lyro to confirm it is an AI agent when asked. Treat this as a backup only: Guidance steers generated replies and is not a fixed notice.
  6. Open your website in a new incognito window and start a chat to check that the notice appears before or with Lyro's first reply.

Example first message

Hi! You're chatting with our AI agent. It answers from our help content, and you can ask for a person at any time.

Let people reach a human

Under Lyro AI Agent > Configure > Handoff, the default for both online and offline hours is "Transfer conversation to agent"; you can also let Lyro create a ticket, set handoff audiences and edit the predefined handoff messages.

What Tidio says about the AI Act

Tidio's terms do not name the AI Act but require customers to inform end users that they are interacting with AI and not to present AI output as written by a human.

Where the data is hosted

Tidio's GDPR article says its data is stored on servers in EEA countries; its Lyro article says Lyro is powered by Claude from Anthropic.

Why the first message matters

Article 50(1) obliges providers to design AI systems that interact with people so that those people are informed they are interacting with AI, unless this is obvious, and Article 50(5) requires that information to be given clearly at the latest at the first interaction. The chatbot vendor is usually the provider and a website operator who embeds the bot is usually a deployer, but the operator controls the bot's name, labels and first message, so that is the practical place to make sure the notice appears. Breaches can be fined up to EUR 15 million or 3% of worldwide annual turnover under Article 99(4).
