EU AI Act · Article 50
How to add an AI disclosure to Userlike
Article 50(1) of the EU AI Act, applicable since 2 August 2026, requires AI systems that interact with people to be designed so that those people know they are dealing with AI, unless this is obvious. If your website runs Userlike as a chatbot or AI agent, this page shows where to set its name, labels and first message so the notice appears at the start of every conversation.
AI product: Connect AI AI Agent by Lime Connect (Userlike rebranded to Lime Connect in September 2025); older AI chatbot via the AI Automation Hub ·
What Userlike shows by default
Lime Connect (formerly Userlike) advertises "automatic AI labeling" so customers know whether they are talking to an AI agent or a person, but its help documentation does not show what the label looks like or where it appears.
How to set up the AI notice
- Userlike is now called Lime Connect. In the app, click the AI icon in the left menu, go to Settings > AI Agent and click your agent's name to open its settings.
- Edit the agent's welcome message so it opens by saying the contact is chatting with an AI agent and can ask for a person at any time.
- In the Profile tab, set what the agent is called. Use a name that signals AI rather than a staff-style first and last name.
- In the widget settings, check the texts visitors see before a chat starts: the "Welcome message" under Wording > Conversation and, in proactive mode, the "Proactive message" under Chat > Behaviour. If the AI agent takes these chats, mention it there too.
- Create a Guideline and assign it in the agent's Guidelines tab, for example: "If asked, confirm that you are an AI agent. Transfer to a human when the contact asks for one." Each Guideline can have up to 500 characters.
- Still using the older AI chatbot from the AI Automation Hub? Its name and profile picture are in Team > Chatbots > [your bot] > Profile, and its standard texts, including the transfer text, are in the Automation Hub's Texts tab.
Example first message
Hello, I'm the AI agent of our customer service. I'll try to answer your question straight away, and if you'd rather speak to a person, just say so.
Let people reach a human
Connect AI lets you decide when a human takes over, including an "Escalation on poor rating" option in the AI Agent setup; for the older AI chatbot, Lime Connect deliberately offers no one-click switch to stop forwarding to human operators.
What Userlike says about the AI Act
Lime Connect's data privacy page calls the product "EU AI Act ready" and advertises automatic AI labeling, without documenting how the label works.
Where the data is hosted
Lime Connect says chat data is stored on servers in Germany and that Connect AI's models run on Microsoft Azure and AWS Bedrock with server locations limited to the EU.
Why the first message matters
Article 50(1) obliges providers to design AI systems that interact with people so that those people are informed they are interacting with AI, unless this is obvious, and Article 50(5) requires that information to be given clearly at the latest at the first interaction. The chatbot vendor is usually the provider and a website operator who embeds the bot is usually a deployer, but the operator controls the bot's name, labels and first message, so that is the practical place to make sure the notice appears. Breaches can be fined up to EUR 15 million or 3% of worldwide annual turnover under Article 99(4).
